Microsoft® and Combionic showcase the use of Cloud Computing in modern collaborative environments. The example shows to what degree the process of file management between organizations can be streamlined with the help of cloud technologies.

Showcase

In the showcase, a company relocates its registered headquarters from one city to another. As a result, all the documents filed in the commercial register also need to be relocated. Previously, all the documents had to be created manually and entered in the registers of the new authority responsible for the company – a process involving several steps.

Thanks to the cloud service, this can now be accomplished in a single step – quickly and easily at the touch of a button: Both authorities responsible exchange the data via the cloud service. The one previously responsible for the company makes the documents available in the cloud in encrypted form, as a result of which the new local court has direct access to the data and can handle the case immediately. The public administration cuts its operating and process costs considerably thanks to less effort in terms of personnel, communication and time, as well as reducing the time the processing time for the local courts.

Security

What makes this concept so special is the realisation of different security levels due to the distinct seperation of the process and the exchanging information, documents and data. Workflows with ordinary, encrypted user data can be processed in the Public Cloud (Azure™), sensitive data (such as documents) can be transferred within a private cloud environment. Therefore a multi-level security concept can be realised depending on individual requirements.

Technology

Apart from the concept for the "Modern Government Workplace", Microsoft also supplies the cloud-based Azure platform and enables the processes to be standardized and automated. On the basis of its gateway technology, Combionic is developing the required Office extensions, collaboration services and connectors to allow rapid integration of information from different sources and formats.

The scenario offers visitors of the Microsoft Executive Briefing Center in Brussels cloud computing for public administration that they can touch and feel. It also demonstrates the potential of this technology – among other things for electronic data exchange and central process control.
